BREWERY

OUR STORY

Zoiglhaus Brewing was founded with a deep appreciation for community, tradition, and family – values that resonate throughout Portland’s lively beer scene. The inspiration came from the centuries-old Zoigl tradition still practiced in a handful of Bavarian villages, where wort is brewed in a shared community brewhouse, then fermented and served from people’s homes. This unique system fostered connection, hospitality, and a deep respect for the craft.

After visiting these villages and experiencing the culture firsthand, the vision for zoiglhaus was born: to bring that same spirit of togetherness and tradition to South East Portland. Named for the six-pointed Zoigl star—a historic brewer’s symbol that once signaled which homes were open to the public—Zoiglhaus is more than a brewery. It’s a gathering place where beer, food, and community come together under one welcoming roof.
